Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of the digital economy in promoting economic growth and sustainability in the context of global digital transformation, with a focus on the current state of the Iraqi economy and the formulation of a future vision for its development. The study is based on the assumption that the digital economy has become one of the key drivers of economic growth, due to its potential to improve productivity, foster innovation, and diversify sources of income, particularly in economies that rely heavily on natural resources. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach through the review of economic literature and relevant international reports, highlighting the main challenges facing the development of the digital economy in Iraq, such as weak digital infrastructure, inadequate legislative and regulatory frameworks, and a shortage of digital skills. The study also discusses the available opportunities that could support digital transformation, including the young demographic structure and the increasing use of digital technologies. The research concludes that developing the digital economy in Iraq requires the adoption of a comprehensive future vision based on investing in digital infrastructure, building qualified human capital, promoting digital entrepreneurship, and strengthening e-government, which would contribute to achieving sustainable economic development.
